Hey chess fans,

This spring we launched Themes, a new Noctie feature combining instruction, flashcards and playable scenarios into structured modules.

Since then we’ve worked hard to make the theme creation interface more powerful and easy-to-use, and today we’ve reached a significant milestone:

🔹 500 themes made by Noctie members!

Going forward, theme creation is leaving beta and will be a paid feature.

New Themes

We’ve added a few new in-built themes to complement your creations:

  • Tactics 101: We’ve started a collection of the most commonly occurring tactical patterns, which we’ll expand over the coming weeks.
  • Endgame Checkmates: Two-bishop checkmate and back-rank checkmates added
  • Endgame Essentials: Started collection with King + Pawn vs. King endgame

Check these out and leave your feedback, or requests for additional subjects to cover!

Other Improvements

  • Fixed perspective issues in themes and scenarios
  • Fixed Android app blinking white between moves
  • Added possibility to get hints in previous positions. This means if you make a mistake, you can go back and check what moves were better, without using a takeback.
  • Changed the web-app domain to app.noctie.ai for performance reasons
  • Plus many more small fixes & improvements

Coming Soon: Openings Revamp

We’re redesigning our Openings feature, to allow a wider variety of use cases and allow importing your own repertoires as well as using curated repertoires others have created.

The repertoire creation feature is already available in beta for premium users. This is a great way to rehearse your repertoire and play real games in it, facing the most common human responses.

Create your repertoire in another tool, like lichess or Chessbook, and export the PGN. Then paste the PGN into your new repertoire, and you’ll be able to practice the moves together with Noctie.

Noctie + Human Coaching?

We’ll soon be piloting a program that combines Noctie with human chess coaches. Reach out to contact@noctie.ai or via our Discord if you’re interested in participating.

Closing Thoughts

Your engagement continues to shape Noctie AI. We’re a small team, working hard on building a more fun, engaging and effective way to learn chess.

We’re reliant on your feedback to steer the product in the right direction. If you haven’t already, take the chance to leave some feedback in the online feedback form or via our Discord
